Death, Rebirth, Freedom Revelry Arts Festival

Thursday Oct. 27th, DSC took a big step in the direction of it’s UseRefuse line. The work became art installation and sculpture.  “An escape to light and color” they explained, “Acknowledge the lotus that blooms in the muck of trash and imagination.” Here are a few of the many photos taken from that night at Tea Lounge in Brooklyn, NY. Many artists were a part of this multidisciplinary festival. Click here for more information on the event.

DSC was selected to showcase the UseRefuse Collection at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Kiosk BKLN event. More info about the show below:

Brooklyn has become the sort of vibrant and gritty artist community that SoHo and the East Village were in decades past. Affordability and open spaces have allowed designers, artists, and crafters to develop largely independent of market forces with more intimate, material-based studio practices.

For just three days (December 3–5), the Walker Shop will showcase Kiosk [Brooklyn], an innovative display of products in the Hennepin Lobby featuring a wide range of jewelry, ceramics, toys, home and fashion accessories, paper products, and hand-printed apparel by new and emerging Brooklyn artists.

UseRefuse Goes Burlesque

Marea and Edith continue to expand their visionary landscape by venturing, once again, into costume territory with their signature UseRefuse Line. They created this futuristic ensemble using plastic bags from the liquor store and dry cleaners to adorn the gorgeously gifted burlesque performer, Essence Revealed. She seduced us with each layer in a packed and very enthused house last Thursday night at The Bowery Poetry Club. Move over, Gaga!

As in life, if you look past the muck of Craigslist, sometimes, you can spot a lotus blooming. DSC answered a posting for art installers for the New York International Photo Festival 2010 in DUMBO Brooklyn (May 12th through the 16th). Artists, curators, and volunteers made great connections.  Even Obama was happy about it.
